Food Shelf →

Our flagship program is our food shelf, where we provide a monthly five-day supply of groceries to families in need. We also offer fresh produce and bread five days per week.

The Good FOod Truck→

Beginning in the summer of 2015, the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf launched an innovative new program, the Good Food Truck. The Good Food Truck is designed to use the power of healthy meals and good food to help people who are hungry, create opportunities for people who are under- or unemployed, and unite the community around the fight against hunger.

The Good Food Truck brings free meals and a fun, festive atmosphere to our hungry and food insecure neighbors using a 16-foot food truck that is fully equipped to cook and serve meals on the road. The Good Food Truck provides meals from June through November at partner organizations and meal sites throughout Chittenden County with a goal of providing 120 days of free meals per year. Clientele of the Good Food Truck who have a household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty line are eligible for these free, nutritious meals featuring globally inspired flavors and local ingredients.

Soup Kitchen

The Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf operates the county’s foremost soup kitchen. We are open to the entire community, serving a hot meal every day, Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 9:30am and Sunday morning from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

Our Sunday morning meal is offered through a partnership with the University of Vermont’s Campus Kitchen project. Students rescue food through the UVM dining system and prepare the meal on-site in the CEFS kitchen.

Community Kitchen Academy →

Community Kitchen Academy is a Vermont Foodbank culinary job training program operated at the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf. Each 14-week session of Community Kitchen Academy contains 10-12 students. To prepare these students with the culinary skills necessary to secure jobs in the food service industry, the professional Chef Instructor delivers a proven curriculum that was developed by the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.

Homebound Grocery Delivery

In order to address hunger relief for populations with mobility issues, the Chittenden Emergency Food Shelf runs a Homebound Delivery program to serve senior citizens and people with disabilities. Each month, staff and volunteers deliver a five-day supply of groceries to homebound clients, providing them with food and a much welcome visit. We currently serve 130 households through the Homebound Delivery program.
